Director, US Manufacturing
Sonoco Packaging & Displays
Upon graduating from University North Carolina at Charlotte and Wake Forest graduate school I enjoyed a brief 2-year career as a professional golfer until 1984. After golf, I joined our family-owned residential and commercial construction company that developed residential golf communities along with large commercial hospitality properties around the U.S. In 1988, I joined Stone Container as a corrugated Sales Representative. Since that time, I have held multiple Sales and Manufacturing leadership roles in Stone Container Corp., Jefferson Smurfit Corporation and Stronghaven Corporation. In 2001, I joined an equity group that purchased the U.S assets of Chesapeake Packaging and Display and renamed the company CorrFlex Display & Packaging based out of Winston-Salem, NC serving mainly as Vice-President of Sales & Marketing. In 2004, Sonoco Products Company acquired CorrFlex where I have remained since the acquisition serving the first several years as Vice-President of Southeast Sales and in 2008 transitioned to Director of U.S. Manufacturing for Sonoco Display & Packaging.
President, Complete Design & Packaging
I was born and raised in Indiana and graduated from Indiana University in 1987. I have been married for 29 years to my wife, Donna, and have 3 children, Sarah (23), Ross (19), and Reid (15).
In 1988, my wife and I moved to North Carolina after being hired by Pratt Industries. After working 14 years in the corrugated industry, I decided to start Complete Design & Packaging in 2002. Within a few short months we were able to attract a friend and business partner, Scott Sumner, to join which gave us a staff of about 7, including my wife. Nearly 17 years later, we have grown CDP to 105 employees.
I chose to make this industry my life-long career after just a few short years of participating in it. I found then, and the same now, the people to be hard-charging, yet practical. I still find the industry particularly relative to my life. With the industry creating more cutting-edge technology, such as digital print, it keeps me interested and motivated. Although we might still be considered a “young” company, relative to my competitors, we have rapidly become one of the leaders of advanced change and disruption in our southeast marketplace. I embrace every ounce of it.
